Gabriel Simion is lecturer at the Department of Human and Economic Geography of the University of Bucharest and co-editor of Journal of Studies and Research in Human Geography. Prior to assuming this role, he has worked as councillor for the Romanian Ministry of Culture (2006-2010) and as a researcher at the Romanian Academy – Institute of Geography (2002-2005). Over the past twelve years, he has worked as GIS specialist and spatial data collection in various research teams in the areas of land use/cover changes, urban dynamics, human impact on the environment, land fragmentation and consolidation, deindustrialization and less favoured rural areas.
Dr. Simion was GIS Consultant in the World Bank project to Support Component C of Romania Climate Change – Bucharest Development Scenario Study. He was involved in different EU projects (PhD and post-doctoral studies, GIS teaching, urban image and geodemography).
Dr. Simion holds a Ph.D. in geography and GIS in 2008 and a M.Sc. in landscape management from the University of Bucharest in Romania.
